About Sarah's Cottontails!

Sarah's Cottontails is owned by me Sarah.  I am a youth breeder and exhibitor of mini rex rabbits.  SC's is a small outdoor rabbitry with only limited space to about 20 holes but we make it work!  We breed year round since the rabbits are housed in the shed!  All rabbit chores are done by me and my family helps out with anything I need.  My mom Marie takes me to 4h Events and ARBA & 4h shows all across Massachusetts and sometimes in other states as well.

Sarah's Cottontails was established in 2005 even though we have had rabbits since 2003.  What got me into this was two mini lops from my 4h leader Laura!  When one of them died I was waiting for a mini lop baby but ended up getting my first mini rex and then fell in love with the breed.  I have learned lots from many knowledgeable breeders and from shows.  If it weren't for them I would have no clue on what to do and which rabbit to keep and who not too!  Our first litter was born July 19th, 2005 which was a lilac tort & lilac cross ending up in 5 little blue mini rex.   I kept one from the litter who is named Champ and he is still with us today!  He has only sired a few litters.  To me he is a pet even though he was not the best show bunny he is now my pet and a reminder of how far I have overcome with my mini rex since day one.

Now have learned what works in mini rex and what doesn't.  We have done very well in shows.  We are now in the process of rebuilding our mini rex herd and  starting a foundation herd of our own line.  After going through many of the mini rex variety's that we have had at one point or another we have decided what we want to specialize in.  We have picked Black and Tort to specialize in for right now.  We just started breeding torts around the end of 2007 and have done really well with them and that is the main color we will be specializing in for now!  We are also going to add broken's to the mix in 2008!!

So look for upcoming juniors of these variety's of some others that sometimes come into the mix.  Since we have a small rabbitry we have to pick rabbits carefully and pick only ones that will better our herd.  Because of this we have many very nice quality animals for sale that we would keep if we had the space to do so.  We also have some pet rabbits available time to time that are available for adoption.
